Saginaw cruises to 7-1 victory

The Saginaw Spirit beat the Sarnia Sting 7-1 Saturday night.  Richard Jarusek tallied his first OHL career hat trick in the effort.

A costly turnover on their first possession of the game utlimately proved to be Ubly's undoing against Traverse City St. Francis, while Ovid-Elsie failed to hang on to a one-point halftime lead against favored Muskegon Oakridge.

Ovid-Elsie will make the first-ever appearance in a football state title game on Saturday afternoon, when they battle undefeated Muskegon Oakridge at 4:30 at Ford Field.

Though it was an overall tough day in the high school football state semi-finals for Mid-Michigan schools, both Ovid-Elsie and Ubly turned in dominant performances to punch their respective tickets to next weekend's state title games at Ford Field.

The Saginaw Spirit game ended their game Saturday night in a shootout against the Windsor Spitfires for the second time this season. Going into 14 rounds, the shootout marked the longest in the team's history.

In state quarterfinal action on Friday night, Nouvel C.C. kept their hopes for a three-peat alive with a 35-10 victory over St. Charles.  It's the third consecutive season the Bulldogs have been ousted from the playoffs by the Panthers.
